Parijs heeft een gemixte status als het gaat om veiligheid. Sommige mensen zijn zich heel erg bewust van de gevaren die de stad heeft en sommige mensen zien alleen het geromantiseerde beeld van de stad.
In Parijs zijn heel veel pickpockets. Zorg dan ook altijd dat je een tas hebt die dicht kan met een rits en die je gekruist om je schouder kan hangen. Let vooral op in de metro’s of bij de hotspots, je willen soms ineens je telefoon of je portemonnee uit je handen rukken en rennen. Dus ook niks in je achterzak etc. In je tas en je rits dicht, ga hier niet te licht mee om want ik heb het vaak genoeg gehoord dat mensen hun spullen direct kwijt waren.
Mijd sommige wijken, de 19/20 arr. zijn wat gevaarlijke wijken maar ook de wijk rondom de Moulin Rouge/Sacré cœur kan s ‘nachts wat gevaarlijker zijn. Blijf ook vooral ver uit de buitenwijken van Parijs. Je zal hier eigenlijk ook niets te zoeken hebben maar je kan het maar weten!
Voor vrouwen is het helaas altijd nog even ietsjes meer opletten. Ik heb gelukkig nog nooit iets naars meegemaakt in Parijs. Geen vervelende ervaring, niets gejat, etc. Maar ik heb genoeg meiden gehoord die wel zoiets hebben meegemaakt. Zorg dat je als vrouw zijnde nooit alleen of samen lange stukken moet lopen maar pak een Uber. Ook de metro kan je midden in de nacht beter niet samen of alleen doen. Het is echt niet zo erg dat je wordt aangevallen of iets maar het is zeker wel iets waar je wel rekening mee moet houden.
Vooral zakken rollers zijn een groot probleem. Hier hoef je natuurlijk geen vrouw voor te zijn maar toeristen zijn wel een gewild doelwit. Dit omdat je niet super goed op je spullen let omdat je bezig bent met al het nieuws om je heen. Zorg dus echt dat je tas dicht zit en je telefoon niet in je achterzak. Ook niet als je lam bent, dan ben je natuurlijk het makkelijkste doelwit. Wat ik deed wanneer ik een tas met rits had was dat ik een sleutelhanger met zo’n clipje eraan, aan de hengsels van mijn tas hing en dat vast klipje aan mijn rits. Zo moest je eerst het klipje los maken voordat je de rits kon openen. Klinkt misschien overdreven maar ik wilde echt niet mijn telefoon kwijtraken.
Ik denk ook zeker dat iedereen dit anders ervaart en dat gevaar en veiligheid een breed aspect is maar houdt wel in je achterhoofd dat Parijs een grote stad is met veel onwetende toeristen en er niet voor de grap gewaarschuwd wordt.
Safety
Paris has a mixed status when it comes to safety. Some people are very aware of the dangers the city has and some people only see the romanticized image of the city.
There are a lot of pickpockets in Paris. Therefore, always make sure you have a bag that can be closed with a zip and that you can hang crossways around your shoulder. Be especially careful in the subways or at hotspots, they sometimes suddenly want to snatch your phone or wallet from your hands and run. So don’t put anything in your back pocket either. Don’t take this lightly because I’ve heard it often enough that people lost their things immediately.
Avoid some neighborhoods, the 19/20 arr. are a bit dangerous but also the area around the Moulin Rouge/Sacré cœur can be more dangerous at night. Also stay far away from the suburbs of Paris. You won’t really have anything to do here either, but you should know!
For women, unfortunately, you have to be more careful. Fortunately, I have never experienced anything unpleasant in Paris. No nasty experience, nothing stolen, etc. But I have heard enough girls who have experienced something like that. Make sure that you, as a woman, never have to walk long distances alone or together, but take an Uber. It’s also better not to take the metro in the middle of the night, alone or together. It is really not so bad that you will be attacked or something, but it is definitely something you have to take into account.
Especially pick pockets are a big problem. Of course, you don’t have to be a woman for this, but tourists are a sought-after target. This is because you do not pay much attention to your stuff because you are busy with all the news around you. So, make sure your bag is closed and your phone is not in your back pocket. Especially if you are drunk, because then you are of course the easiest target. What I did when I had a bag with a zip was to put a keychain with a clip on it on the handle of my bag and then attach it to my zip. That way you first had to undo the clip before you could open the zip. It may sound exaggerated, but I really didn’t want to lose my phone.
I also think that everyone experiences this differently and that danger and safety is a broad aspect, but keep in mind that Paris is a big city with many ignorant tourists and warnings are not given for the fun of it.
